Designed to go through all the training required for the BHPA tandem pilot rating.
The course will cover everything you need to know and practice in the skills you require in an ideal environment. It also includes an assessment of you abilities and if you reach the required standard the awarding of the BHPA tandem pilot rating.
Pilots must have the BHPA minimum entry requirements.
Ie BHPA membership, Pilot rating, at least 100 logged hours and be in current practice. If you are in Instructor or TI we can also include a module on tandem as a training tool.
The Dune De Pyla is an excellent environment for tandem flying. Although you will not get massive height gains, it is possible to do a large number of take off and landings in a short time and in a safe environment, and the place is ideal for ground handling and practicing a variety of launch techniques.
The low dunes can be quite technical to fly well requiring good precision and awareness as the sky is often quite busy, so the place is not without its challenges!
We will cover all the practical, theoretical and political aspects of tandem flying. We will have an opportunity to do a lot of launch practice (the fun part!) and you will have a chance to try a variety of techniques. After a couple of check flights with a rated dual instructor, you will be asked to fly with each other, taking turns to be the pilot in command and the passenger (P1 or P2) When you have done sufficient flights and reached the standard the instructor will give you a final assessment for your rating.
Transfers from Bordeaux airport (BOD) to the camp site are included as well as getting about in the area in our minibus. So you do not need a vehicle unless you want to do your own thing.
We generally fly with BMI baby from Manchester or BA from London, although other flights are available.
-If your flight is at an odd time or not on our normal transfer day you may need to make your own way by Taxi, (or take a train to nearby Arcachon).
Accommodation is in modern "Mobile homes" with two bedrooms, they are not in fact mobile as each one has a plumbed in bathroom and electricity, gas etc. Each home has a nice sundeck and outside table, chairs and sun lounger. The site has a shop, restaurant and pool. The normal arrangement is that two clients share each home, but if you want single occupancy that is easy to arrange. It is a good idea to take your own sheets as the site supplies disposable sheets which are not worth the paper they are written on.
Sunsoar charge £500 for the course. This includes all instruction, any equipment required, transfers and transport.
The accommodation costs are XXX Euros per week or XX per night for a mobile home, you would normally pay 50% of this per person; of course if three people share the prices reduce accordingly. It is also possible to camp if you wish.
It is possible to stay off-site at a hotel in Arcachon for example but in that case you would need to arrange transport each day as we meet at the site. Flights, insurance, food and drink are at your own expense. |
